I'm back. Some time has passed. I know I usually do this on Monday, but hear me out.
One common way cartoons denigrate men while putting women on a pedestal is in using their nudity for humorous purposes. Even if a female is being sexualized, they're still considered attractive by the camera. Thus, it's more akin to a photo shoot; while the most common thing that happens to men is more like pantsing.
One need only look at Dexter's Laboratory in order to see what this kind of thing looks like. Dexter, the main young boy character, frequently ended up losing his clothing, to the point that a whole episode, "Streaky Clean", focused on his nudity in a, quite frankly, humiliating situation. His attempts to clean his clothes automatically resulted in him burning them off, and he had to return home totally nude.
Now, imagine if Dee Dee had asked Dexter to use that device to help with art class, and keeping clean. Imagine if, through no fault of either party, the device had ended up burning all of Dee Dee's clothes off. Imagine if she had to streak all the way home totally nude, trying to avoid being seen, and not doing very well at it, either. The uproar would be huge, wouldn't it?
But look at the pics. Dexter clearly isn't enjoying his situation, and Dee Dee likely wouldn't, either. So why is it okay to do everything to Dexter, but Dee Dee never has to deal with that at all? It gets even worse when you realize the show frequently sexualizes the older women, and when you learn the episode was written by a known sex offender.
It raises too many questions. But the biggest one I see raised is... why are boys considered fun to bully?
